Three wines, two bottles of each, chosen to carry a table from the first pour to the last. The Kottabos Chenin Blanc Skin Contact opens with ripe, sun-drenched stone fruit, a touch of warm ginger and a distinct granitic freshness, its brief maceration lending a stunning, grippy texture. Conclusion follows with blueberry, bruised plum and that unmistakable cedar and cigar box character, beautifully concentrated through a big yet elegant mid-palate. Five Acres 2025 closes the case — a Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah blend of dark berry, graphite and gentle spice, made for a London fine wine club and released nowhere else. Serve the Chenin Blanc at 10–12°C and both reds at 16–18°C.
A case built for a long table and an unhurried evening. Begin with the Kottabos Chenin Blanc alongside a mild Thai green curry, roasted butternut, or a wedge of aged Gruyère, where its ginger and stone fruit stand up beautifully to gentle spice. Bring Conclusion out for the main course — slow-roasted lamb shoulder, dry-aged sirloin, or oxtail with soft polenta — where its concentration and fine tannins meet the richness head-on. Five Acres is the braai bottle: smoked brisket, boerewors over the coals, or a thick rib-eye pulled off the grid and properly rested. Finish either red with a mature Cheddar and a handful of walnuts.
Five Acres 2025 was made to a single brief for one Fine Wine Club in London — one blend, one vintage, sold nowhere else. A Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah blend drawn from the decomposed granite soils of the Polkadraai Hills, it was fermented and matured with the same restraint we bring to every wine in our cellar. Once the allocation was filled, 110 bottles remained. Rather than leave them in a warehouse, we built fifty-five mixed cases around them, pairing every two bottles of Five Acres with two Kottabos Chenin Blanc Skin Contact and two Conclusion — at the ordinary price of those four bottles alone. When the fifty-five cases are gone, this wine does not return.
